The Google Digital Marketing & E-commerce Certificate is an online, self-paced program that Google offers on Coursera. Here is what it includes, what it costs and what it does not do. Everything below comes from Google’s official program page and the Coursera course page, both checked on October 28, 2026.

What you learn

Google lists seven courses:

  1. Foundations of Digital Marketing and E-commerce
  2. Attract and Engage Customers with Digital Marketing
  3. From Likes to Leads: Interact with Customers Online
  4. Think Outside the Inbox: Email Marketing
  5. Assess for Success: Marketing Analytics and Measurement
  6. Make the Sale: Build, Launch, and Manage E-commerce Stores
  7. Satisfaction Guaranteed: Develop Customer Loyalty Online

Why does Coursera show eight? Google’s FAQ explains: “All of our Google Career Certificates now include an optional new course, Accelerate Your Job Search with AI.”

Coursera says the program “includes over 190 hours of instruction and practice-based assessments.” Tools named on the Coursera page include Canva, Constant Contact, Google Ads, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, HubSpot, Mailchimp and Shopify. Coursera also recommends taking the courses in order, “as the content builds on information from earlier courses.”

How the price works

You don’t pay a one-time fee. In Coursera’s words: “In the U.S. and Canada, Coursera charges $49 per month after the initial 7-day free trial period.” So your total depends on how long you take. At that price, three months costs $147 and six months costs $294. Coursera says “most learners can complete the certificate for less than $300 USD.”

A few details to know before you start:

  • Enrolling in one course signs you up for the whole program. Coursera: “When you subscribe to a course that is part of a Certificate, you’re automatically subscribed to the full Certificate.”
  • Coursera’s page says “Financial aid available.”
  • For a limited time, enrollment comes with a 3-month trial of Google AI Pro. After it ends, “The plan renews at the standard rate of $19.99 per month.” Google says the trial needs a payment method at sign-up. Set a reminder if you don’t want to keep it.
  • Prices outside the U.S. and Canada “may be lower,” Google says.

Prices and offers can change. Check the enrollment page for the current price before you pay. If your employer might cover it, see how to ask your employer to pay for a course.

What you get at the end

  • A certificate and a badge. Coursera says you can add the certificate to your LinkedIn profile, resume or CV. Graduates also get an email “prompting them to claim their Credly badge,” which carries the credit recommendation.
  • A credit recommendation, not guaranteed credit. Google says the American Council on Education (ACE) recommends 9 college credits, “the equivalent of 3 college courses at the bachelor’s degree level.” Coursera adds: “the decision to accept specific credit recommendations is up to each institution and is not guaranteed.”
  • Career tools in the US. Google says US graduates get access to CareerCircle, “which offers personalized coaching, mock interviews, and resume-building tools.”
  • An employer consortium. Google’s exact words: “The Google Career Certificates Employer Consortium consists of over 150 U.S. companies like Deloitte, Infosys, Snap Inc., Target, Verizon, and of course, Google. Consortium members are committed to considering Google Digital Marketing & E-commerce Certificate graduates for entry-level digital marketing jobs.”

Note the wording: “committed to considering.” That is not a job offer.

This is a certificate from a training program. Neither page mentions a separate certification exam. If you are not sure why that matters, read certificate vs. certification.

Read the job numbers carefully

The official pages show three different sets of job figures:

  • Google’s main page: “$75,000+” median salary “for digital marketing and e-commerce jobs with 0 to 5 years of experience” and “127,000+” open jobs, citing Lightcast US job postings for 2025.
  • Google’s FAQ, on the same page: “213,000 U.S. job openings in digital marketing and e-commerce with a median salary of $59,000.”
  • Coursera: “over 116,000 open jobs” with “a median entry-level salary of $71,000,” also citing Lightcast job postings.

These describe job postings, not what graduates of this program earn. The outcome figure Coursera shows is different: “75% of certificate graduates report a positive career outcome (e.g., new job, promotion, or raise) within six months of completion.” Its footnote says this is “Based on program graduate survey, United States 2022.” For government pay data on marketing jobs, see digital marketing careers: pay and outlook.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • No degree or experience required.
  • Self-paced, so you can fit it around work.
  • Monthly pricing: finishing faster costs less.
  • Covers common tools, including Google Ads, Google Analytics and Shopify.
  • ACE credit recommendation, if a school accepts it.
  • Career tools and a job board for US graduates.

Cons

  • The cost keeps running while you study. A slow pace costs more.
  • It ends in a certificate, not an exam-based certification.
  • College credit depends on each school.
  • The consortium promises consideration, not hiring.
  • The job figures vary between pages and come from job postings, not graduates.
  • The AI Pro trial renews at $19.99 a month unless you cancel.
